Lucca Comics & Games 2024: The Butterfly effect

Lucca Comics & games 2024 opens its doors on Thursday, November 30 and will close its doors on Sunday, November 3. Lucca Comics & Games is a place where comics, games, cinema, literature and music meet and merge, creating a multi-sensory experience. The thematic areas of the fair are truly many, we find the Comics area, the Games area, Lucca Junior, Lucca Music & Cosplay, Lucca movie, Japan Palace and Japan Town traditionally dedicated to all Japanese production.

This year's program is full of events, exhibitions, exceptional international guests, concerts, shows, workshops, seminars, many stands of small and large publishers, where you can find a vast offer of Comics, manga up to genre fiction, and lastly the colorful and fun attendance of the fair. At every corner you can meet the inevitable cosplay, people wearing the costume of their favorite Anime or video game character. Lucca Comics & games 2024 is an experience not to be missed. Read on to find out this year’s theme, who the guests will be, what the exhibitions will be, how to get there, and when and where to buy tickets. The theme of the Lucca comics & games 2024 edition is called The Butterfly Effect and pays homage, with clear reference to one of his most famous works Madama Butterfly, to the centenary of the death of the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. The Butterfly Effect is also the so-called butterfly effect, inserted in the Chaos Theory, according to which small changes can lead to great revolutions, a theme that resonates in the creative spirit of Lucca Comics & Games. For the posters of this year's edition, a great Japanese master, Yoshitaka Amano, was called.

Yoshitaka Amano is a world-famous Japanese artist, known for his revolutionary work in the field of animation, video games and contemporary art. From November 13, 2024, until March 1, 2025, in collaboration with Lucca Comics & games, it will be possible to visit the exhibition entirely dedicated to the artist, Amano Corpus Animae, this is the largest retrospective to celebrate Amano's 50-year career, it will be exhibited in Milan at the Fabbrica del Vapore. So, this year Lucca Comics & games, does not end on November 3, at the end of the Festival it will move to Milan, for a new fantastic adventure.

The numerous guests of Lucca Comics & Games 2024 come from all over the world. Many artists are arriving from the East, among the Japanese mangaka (authors of Manga) Baron Yoshimoto, the first Japanese to work for Marvel Comics; from China ChenXi author of the webtoon Of Machines and Beast, with more than 1.8 billion views. From the Western world there is the Franco-Japanese collaboration that proposes a sequel to the famous Goldrake. For Batman fans, Scott Snyder and Jeph Loeb will be present, two true superstars of American comic books and Daniel Clowes and Skottie Young among the most innovative signatures in the world comics scene.

For the 20 of the Italian publishing house Tunué there will be among others Paco Roca and among the Italian authors Pera Toons. There are also many celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Anime One piece, Kenji Yokoyama, director of the last years of the Anime produced by Studio Toei Animation, will be present in Lucca. For the Lucca Games section, you will find Alexei Pazitnov, creator of the timeless video game Tetris. For the Lucca movie section, among others Hwang Dong-hyuk creator and writer of the awaited second season of Netflix, Squid Games, together with the main actors Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-Jun. Finally, for the fantasy section, the 50th anniversary of the famous role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons is being celebrated, and Jeremy Crawford, game director and lead designer of the new edition, will be present. Finally, on November 2nd at 9 pm there will be a maxi-concert with the festival's historic guests, including Cristina D'Avena, with the theme songs of the most famous cartoons.

Being just a few steps away from the original drawings of international creatives and artists always creates a certain emotion. In Lucca you can experience it in one of the many exhibitions planned. At Palazzo Ducale, Kalimatuna, our words in freedom, in this exhibition an original human, political and social cross-section of Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt is exhibited, through the drawings of second-generation authors Takoua Ben Mohamed, Zainab Fasiki, Deena Mohamed, who illustrate the changes in their countries of origin.

Still in Palazzo Ducale is a retrospective of Francesca Ghermandi, Il Pianeta Intergalattico. Fumetti, Disegni e Oggetti, on display the fantastic versatility of Ghermandi, now a true cult author, the exhibition offers intellectual stimulation and visual satisfaction of the highest level. Again in Palazzo Ducale, the Jubilé Hurlant exhibition, an exhibition that pays homage to the 50th anniversary of the historic magazine Métal Hurlant, on the occasion of the visit of Jean-Pierre Dionnet, one of the founders of the magazine. Continuing with our overview, in the prestigious setting of the Chiesa dei Servi, over a hundred original works by the artists who made the history of Dungeons & Dragons will be exhibited. We conclude our tour of the exhibitions on display at Lucca Comics & Games 2024, with the monograph dedicated to Kazu Kibuishi, an artist, loved by millions of readers all over the world, once again at Palazzo Ducale.

Getting to Lucca is not difficult, it is a well-connected city that offers various ways of arriving. Once you arrive in Lucca you have also arrived at Lucca Comics & Games 2024, which for the most part is enclosed within the ancient walls of Lucca with a few exceptions, such as Japan Town. Before immersing yourself in the festival you can head to one of the various welcome desks and info points, be sure to request a map of the fair or download the dedicated app to locate all the places you want to visit.

To get to Lucca you can choose various options, the closest airport is Galileo Galilei in Pisa 20 km away, with the train Lucca is connected at regular intervals with the cities of Pisa, Florence and Viareggio. From Lucca station to the entrance of the fair it is a few minutes’ walk. If you are in a car to make things easier for yourself, you could book a parking lot. The festival is open from 9.00 to 19.30; while the welcome desks are open from 7.00 to 18.30.

Entrance tickets for Lucca Comics & Games 2024 can be purchased both online on TicketOne and starting from October 1st also at the physical ticket offices in Lucca and throughout Italy, through the physical sales points of TicketOne. It is possible to buy both a ticket for a single day, and a season ticket for the entire duration of the festival.

As soon as you enter the Fair you will have to go to a Welcome Point with your ticket to collect the bracelet that gives physical access to the festival. Alternatively, to collect the bracelets there are also gold sales points where you can buy the ticket and collect the bracelet at the same time.
