2) What is the highest village in the Monti Sibillini?
The highest village in the Monti Sibillini is Castelluccio di Norcia, located at about 1,452 meters above sea level, overlooking the scenic Piano Grande, famous for its spectacular Fioritura from May to July, when the fields burst into a kaleidoscope of colors.
Some scenes from the movie "Gladiator" (2000), directed by Ridley Scott, were filmed here.
In particular, the Piani di Castelluccio served as the backdrop for the iconic scene where Maximus Decimus Meridius, played by Russell Crowe, walks through golden wheat fields, gently touching the stalks with his hand, imagining his return home and reunion with his family.
