Maranello Ferrari Museum, what to see

We are in Emilia-Romagna, also famous for being the "Land of Motors". Here are the most fascinating sports manufacturers in the world and Ferrari is right in the center. The Ferrari Museum in Maranello opened in February 1990 and in 2004 it was expanded with the construction of a new wing. Space for cups and trophies is needed, in Formula 1 alone the Cavallino has won 15 Drivers' World Championships and 16 Constructors' World Championships, with Michael Schumacher who won 5 in a row among the drivers from 2000 to 2004.

Well beyond the trophies, the Ferrari museum in Maranello displays some of the most beautiful cars ever built and many exhibitions are organized to tie the production together with a common thread. The "Supercars" exhibition is currently underway, dedicated to those models that have marked the history of grand tourers, from the legendary GTO and F40 to the F50 of the 80s, with a 520 HP naturally aspirated V12 engine that derived directly from the Ferrari 640 F1 that raced in Formula 1.

In Modena there is the museum dedicated to the founder Enzo Ferrari, a former driver also known as the Drake. Here, until 17 February 2025, it is possible to discover the special series and "tailor made" models that the company created for very demanding customers, such as the Ferrari 812 Competizione Tailor Made, the first example of a limited series of 999 pieces, or the Ferrari 166 MM with Touring body from 1948, in a two-tone blue and green as requested by customer Gianni Agnelli. Last year the two museums of Maranello and Modena recorded a record of over 740 thousand visitors.

Curiosities about Ferrari

Why is the symbol of Ferrari the Prancing Horse?

As a tribute to the Italian aviator and hero of the First World War Francesco Baracca, who had the prancing horse on the cockpit of his plane. Enzo Ferrari received the symbol from Baracca's parents in 1923 as a sign of good luck. Ironically, Enzo Ferrari never took a plane in his life.

Enzo Ferrari driver

Before founding the company that bears his name, Enzo Ferrari had been a test driver and driver for Alfa Romeo. He ran a total of 41 races, won 9 of them but of secondary importance and his worry was that he had not become a great driver.

The phrase

Give a child a sheet of paper, some colors and ask him to draw a car, he will surely make it red” (Enzo Ferrari).
